Pot Belly Pigs - Diet and Housing

Pot Belly Pigs weigh no more than 2 pounds at birth. They grow rapidly and may become about 100-150 pounds when mature. Generally, pigs grow until they are four years old. Breed owners are advised to feed their pets special swine rations produced with the animal needs in mind. As a rule, such rations contain about 14-16% of protein and a certain percentage of vitamins and minerals. In fact, vitamins and other essential constituents may be consumed as extra supplements.

It should be mentioned that pigs have higher fiber requirements than those of other animals. Therefore, it is recommended to supply Pot Belly Pigs with fresh vegetables and fruits. This can be done on occasion. "Junk" food is not recommended for Pot Belly Pigs since adult animals are likely to become overweight easily on this diet.

People who have been with Pot Bellied Pigs for a while are sure to have noticed that the breed is not good with extreme temperatures. Many Potbellied Pigs tend to get ill when exposed to hot or cold temperatures. An average of 60-70 degrees is considered best suited for these animals. If it is a pet and the Pot Belly Pig is outside, it is necessary to supply it with fresh water and shade. Make sure the pet always has something to do. Pot Belly Pigs grow bored and may destroy flowerbeds and other items in the backyard.
